vSplash: Local Independent Tax Preparers Behind the Curve in Digital

Wednesday, April 10, 2013

vSplash

With the April 15th federal tax return deadline right around the corner, vSplash released an interesting new infographic which shows that local independent tax preparers are lagging well behind their national counterparts in leveraging digital and mobile tools to reach new customers.

vSplash estimates that there is at least a $140 million opportunity for digital marketing service providers to help thousands of local independent tax preparers get ready for next year’s tax season.

Check out the infographic below for additional details and click over to a blog post by vSplash’s Neal Polacheck about the data. We’re excited to hear from Neal first hand during the SMB “State of the Union” session at our Search Starts Here conference next week in Las Vegas.

vSplash’s BuzzBoard: Connected On the Go

Thursday, August 2, 2012

A few weeks ago I wrote about the vSplash team’s new sales tool, “BuzzBoard,” which will prove incredibly valuable for sales reps, changing the way they prep for sales calls. We thought it was worth sharing a few more highlights we didn’t get to feature in our last post.

Mapping

BuzzBoard actually has the ability to map each sales call for outside reps to better keep track. The mapping tool offers the option of sorting by geography, revenue opportunity, favorites and analytical score.

Multimedia

For the outside rep, the BuzzBoard tool provides the option of using the tablet’s video, picture and audio capabilities. For instance, the audio recording tool can be used to interview local businesses about their marketing needs and expectations, eliminating the need to take written notes and assuring the most accurate information.

Using the video and picture capability offers the option of taking moving or still images of the customer’s location. Content that can then be used for upgrading or building the business’ website and other digital presence.

BuzzBoard Audit

Another great feature is the ability to audit a business’ website “on the fly.” Using BuzzBoard, a sales consultant can input a few pieces of data – name, address, URL – and within a few minutes BuzzBoard generates an on-the-go audit.

Imagine a sales consultant or rep seeing a new business in the market and being able to generate a web audit within minutes – allowing the them to walk in informed and ahead of the curve.

Some of our members are engaging with vSplash to begin market trials with the BuzzBoard tool and we’ve heard they’re pretty impressed. We’re keeping an eye on this new product as trials move forward.

vSplash’s BuzzBoard Transforms Sales Experience for Reps & Merchants

Wednesday, July 11, 2012

Last week, former BIA/Kelsey CEO and President Neal Polachek presented a very impressive sales tool developed by the vSplash team. The tablet tool (currently for iPad and web-version) named “BuzzBoard” is designed to drive to efficiency and effectiveness for local media sales representatives.

First a bit of background on vSplash. Via its managed services business, vSplash currently delivers thousands of high quality digital media executions to its array of local media partners around the world. This includes producing traditional and mobile websites, display ads and mobile apps in multiple languages across multiple time zones. vSplash operates out of its New Jersey and Hyderabad, India offices.

As Neal tells the story, the launch of the BuzzBoard tool is a natural outgrowth of vSplash’s value-added services to large local media companies. The idea for BuzzBoard was germinated by vSplash CEO and founder Umesh Tibrewal as he witnessed first hand the sales challenges his clients were facing in the marketplace as it related to digital media products. One of vSplash’s clients began sending the vSplash analytical team merchant websites for evaluation. These websites were be analyzed by the team and a report was sent back to the sales representative. The sales representative was then able to meet with the merchant and offer a more precise and empirical assessment of the merchant’s digital presence. The empirical assessment enabled the sales representative to feel more confident during the sales call and often led to better conversion and higher revenue generation. As Umesh and team witnessed this, vSplash began building a platform to automate the website assessment process.

BuzzBoard is the manifestation of this learning process. There are some key elements of the BuzzBoard tool that Neal took our team through during the call last week. First, at the core of BuzzBoard is the audit of the merchant’s website. This audit focuses on the presence and performance of the website. Presence is defined as where and how consumers can find a merchant’s website. The audit therefore determines if the website is being properly indexed in the search engines, on the key directory sites and whether or not the site can be access and viewed via a mobile device. In terms of performance, BuzzBoard analyzes the functional aspects of the merchants’ website. This includes key technical aspects and assesses the site in terms of search engine optimization.

The second key aspect of the BuzzBoard tool is the automated proposal generator. The tool takes the website assessment and automatically creates a proposal for fixing and improving the presence and performance of merchant’s website. The tool offers the sales representative three options for generating a proposal – an automated proposal, a proposal based on one-time and ongoing investment and a menu based option. Neal showed us some other important features of the tool that we’ll describe in forthcoming post.

It seems clear that BuzzBoard has some great potential to transform the sales experience for the sales representative and the merchant. Early evidence suggests the tool can greatly reduce the time spent by sales representatives preparing for a sales call while enabling the sales representative to have a more effective presentation and merchant interaction and engagement. Just imagine if BuzzBoard could enable outside sales representatives to see one more merchant a day and improve overall revenue conversion by say 10-20% –  then BuzzBoard could be a real game changer.

Yellow Medya Turkey Partners with vSplash to Compile Valuable SMB Data

Monday, June 18, 2012

Last week, Turkish local search company Yellow Medya announced a strategic partnership with vSplash Techlabs for the publication and distribution of SMB DigitalScape data in Turkey.

Developed by vSplash, SMB DigitalScape is a powerful data collection and analysis engine that gauges the state of SMB digital media and commerce. The technology has already analyzed more than 1.1 million SMB websites in 14 countries around the world, including more than 161,000 SMB websites in Turkey. As part of the agreement, Yellow Medya will provide vSplash with access to its database of nearly 800,000 small businesses in Turkey.

Initial research of Turkish SMB websites suggests that many are not as technically sound from a search engine optimization perspective as they should be and feature deficiencies including lacking meta titles, privacy policies and keywords.

For example:

  • 99.2% of Turkish SMB websites are not optimized for mobile devices
  • 73.4% of Turkish SMB websites lack a phone number on their home page for consumers to contact the business
  • 71.7% of Turkish SMB websites lack an email link on their home page for consumers to contact the business
  • 57% of Turkish SMB websites lack a form-fill option to enable consumers to request information
  • 56.8% of Turkish SMB websites have no keyword information for search engine discovery
  • 87.1% of Turkish SMB websites have no privacy policy

In our monthly column on Search Engine Land, we’ve discussed how important it is for local businesses to take care of these website basics in order to effectively reach consumers in our increasingly digital local search environment. Yellow Medya and vSplash are providing a great service to Turkish SMBs by raising awareness for this important issue.
